History of Doctor’s Day
National Doctor’s Day is celebrated in the honor of West Bengal's second Chief Minister, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was a great physician and a freedom fighter. He was the Chief Minister of Bengal and from his death in 1948 until 1948 he remained on this post for almost 14 years. Apart from this, he was considered an incredible designer in West Bengal. Five urban communities in West Bengal were similarly set up to be distinct: Durgapur, Bidhannagar, Ashoknagar, Kalyani, and Habra. Additionally, he was a person of the Brahmo Samaj. At the Medical College of Calcutta, he was an alumnus of the University of Calcutta. In his memory, a similar honor was organized by the central government. In 1928, he was instrumental in laying the foundation of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and subsequently the Medical Council of India (MCI).
This day reminds us to thank our doctors in offering us with sacrificial support and medicinal services. It is a coincidence that his death and birth anniversary is taking place on the same day. The whole medical profession receives tribute on this very special day. The central government established doctor’s day in order to pay tribute to the legendry physician Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.
