Apple Sees Huge Growth In Indian PC Market After Launching Online Store

Apple reportedly became the fifth largest PC brand in India in the first quarter of this year and its shipments grew 335.5 percent year-on-year (YoY) in the first quarter of this year. Another research agency, CMR, showed that Apple captured 29 percent of the tablet market in the country, even though overall shipments fell 34 percent.

A Digitimes report citing research agency Canalys said that Apple shipped 208,000 units of desktops, notebooks, tablets, and workstations to India in the first quarter of 2021. This makes the company the fifth-largest PC brand in India. Citing Canalis, the report said that this growth in the Indian market was mainly due to the opening of Apple's online store in India in September 2020. The Apple India Store enabled shoppers to browse and buy Apple products directly from the Cupertino giant instead of using sellers like Amazon. Flipkart and others.

According to the report, IDC research shows that Apple's PC shipments in India saw a massive 335.5 percent year-on-year growth in the first quarter of this year. It ranks fifth, with Asus selling only 2,000 fewer units than the Taiwanese manufacturer.

With regard to the tablet market in India, research conducted by CMR earlier this month showed that the entire industry faced a slowdown and sales were down 34 percent from the previous quarter (QoQ). Still, Apple managed to deliver enough iPad models to overtake Samsung and capture 29 percent of the market share. Lenovo topped the tablet sales with a 41 percent market share.
