Apple's Face ID Technology Could Come To Mac In The Couple Of Years

However, according to reports, Apple may be planning to bring the technology to its Mac computers, suggests Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.

In his latest newsletter, Gurman mentioned that Apple's ultimate goal is to move all of its products to FaceID, including lower-priced iPhones such as the iPhone SE series, which currently uses TouchID, Apple's fingerprint sensor implementation.

"It won't be this year, but I'm sure Face ID on the Mac is coming in a few years. I hope all iPhones and iPads upgrade to Face ID within this timeframe. “A screen embedded camera will eventually differentiate the more expensive Apple devices by removing the notch at the top. The face recognition sensor provides Apple with two key functions: security and augmented reality. Touch ID, which is more practical or not, only offers the old one, ”he adds.

Gurman further explained that at some point Apple will embed FaceID technology into the screen itself, eliminating the need for a special notch on Apple iPhones. Application analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that such an iPhone could hit the market by 2023. In the meantime, Apple continues to work on replacing the 27-inch iMac that was missing when Apple released the smaller 24-inch iMac in April this year.

Gurman previously reported that the 24-inch iMac was originally supposed to include FaceID, but the upcoming iMac redesign has initially been delayed. He notes that the thin screens used on Mac laptops, unlike the iPhone and iPad, make it difficult to attach the depth sensor needed for Face ID.
