The government said the forum was on the verge of losing its arbitration position. Sources said Twitter is the only social media platform that does not follow the rules. Government sources for the ANI news agency said: "Twitter will lose its status as a mediation platform in India" because it does not follow the new guidelines, it is the only social media platform among the general public. means that Twitter is responsible for repressive measures under Indian law.

"We keep MeitY informed of progress. An interim compliance officer has been retained and details will be shared directly with the ministry. Twitter is working hard to comply with the new guidelines." said the Twitter spokesperson.

UP Police has registered an FIR in the name of Twitter and others on a video of an attack on an elderly Muslim man in Ghaziabad on June 5. Since Twitter no longer receives legal compensation, they are liable for punitive action.

Ghaziabad Police said in the FIR, "There is no communal aspect to the incident. Twitter did nothing to stop the video from going viral." An FIR was registered against nine names, including Twitter and some journalists, in connection with the Loni incident where an elderly man was thrashed and his beard was shaved off."

Twitter is yet to respond to the query on the FIR lodged by the UP Police.

Twitter said on Tuesday that "it had appointed an interim chief compliance officer as part of a rule. It said it would share the details with the government soon. A Twitter spokesperson had said in the past, "We have assured the Government of India that Twitter is making every effort to comply with the new guidelines, and an overview of our progress has been duly shared. We are working with the Government of India."

As per the new IT rules, non-compliance may lead the respective social media platform to lose its intermediary status and the platform may also be liable for criminal action in case of a complaint. The arbitral status gives these platforms immunity from liabilities on any third-party data hosted by them.
