Microsoft Appoints CEO Satya Nadella As Chairman

Nadella, who started as CEO in 2014 of Steve Ballmer, has helped grow his business, including billion-dollar acquisitions such as LinkedIn, ZeniMax, and Nuance Communications.

According to the company, Thompson, who took over as chairman of software giant Bill Gates in 2014, will serve as an independent director.

In a statement, Microsoft said: "In this role, Nadella will guide the work of aligning the board's agenda, expanding her business' understanding of the undisclosed strategic opportunities, and identifying significant risks and disadvantages to the table. As an independent chief director, Thompson maintains key abilities, including providing information for independent directors on the board agenda, meeting independent directors, assigning executive agendas, and administrative performance studies. "

High-level operational change comes just a year after Gates resigns, focusing on the humanitarian work of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the world's largest welfare organizations.

The company said last month that it investigated Gates' employee relationship nearly 20 years ago in 2019, after which he sought to have a romantic relationship with somebody.

Microsoft declined to say whether the board decided that Gates should leave.

The company also announced that it will pay quarterly dividends of 56 cents (approx. Rs 40) per share payable on September 9.
