RELIVING THE MARDANNI ANTHEM- SUCCESSFUL 6 YEARS OF MARDANNI
EVEN TODAY THE FILM AND ITS ANTHEM STANDS AS AN INSPIRATION FOR THE WOMEN TO BE BOLD AND FEARLESS.
Starring Rani Mukerji as the brave and fearless cop, Shivani Shivaji Roy and Tahir Raj Bhasin as the bad guy, Mardaani was released in 2014. The film has driven ahead successfully into its 6 the year. On the 6th anniversary of the film, we look at how the Mardaani Anthem continues to be relevant and impactful even today.
In our country women be it of any age are still harassed, molested, and bullied. In such a society this film managed to stand out from the crowd and portrayed us as a very bold and fearless character of Rani Mukherjee as a cop Shivani Shivaji Roy. The 2014 hit was helmed by Pradeep Sarkar and was penned by Gopi Puthran who in 2019 helmed the sequel starring Rani in the lead.
The story of the film revolves around a cop Shivani Shivaji Roy played by Rani Mukherjee who is after a villain named Karan Rastogi (Tahir Raj Bahsin) who runs a gang involved in human trafficking and drugs. Every moment he mocks and challenges Shivani and asks her to trace him. And Shivani being a fearless and honest cop leaves no stone unturned to find him out just to save the teenage girl trapped in the human trafficking racket. Nevertheless, the whole movie stands out to inspire women and portraying the strength and capabilities a woman should possess, however, the MARDANNI ANTHEM still holds relevance and encourages women to stop tolerating atrocities and take a stand for themselves.
The Mardaani Anthem featured Rani as Shivani but the lyrics are what made us go ‘Wow’ back in 2014 and they still seem pretty relevant and inspiring today too. Penned by Kausar Munir and composed by Salim-Sulaiman, the anthem empowers you to stand up for yourself and be the change you want to see in the world. The anthem is composed such that it filters strength and courage and makes women realize the real power she has. And if required she can be the fierce Kali and also the motherly Parvati.
SOME OF THE ENERGIZING LINES FROM THE ANTHEM
1. Jaan ko chaahe chhalni kar do, Maan ko na choone dungi (You may hurt me physically, but I would not let you touch my respect)
2. Choo ke Dekho Dil Mera, Tumhe Dil mein apne bhar lungi Par chhed ke Dekho tum mujhko, Main tumko nahi chhodungi. (If you touch my heart, I will keep you safe there. But, if you try to harm me and hurt me, I will ensure that I don’t leave you!)
3.. Kadam milake Dekho to, Main Saath me tere chal dungi, Par chhed ke Dekho tum mujhko, Main tumko nahi chhodungi (You can walk beside me, step by step, I will walk with you. But, If you try to tease me, I won’t leave you)
These lines if heard are enough to rejuvenate the lost strength, courage, fierceness in the women of our country. Such films and such anthems definitely serve a purpose to society. They give out a message to the women Don't be mum! Stand up! Raise a voice for yourself and for others who are being bullied. And MARDANNI has made itself successful in the infiltration of strength and courage to all regardless of gender. So, here’s celebrating 6 years of Mardaani with the anthem that continues to inspire women to be confident, fearless, and bold under all circumstances.
