Tesla Is Set To Open Up Its Supercharger Network To Other Evs Later This Year

The electric car manufacturer's fast-charging network with over 25,000 superchargers worldwide gives it a competitive edge. Meanwhile, other automobile manufacturers have formed alliances to bring new electric vehicles to market or invest in start-ups to network.

"We're making our supercharger network accessible to other electric vehicles later this year," Musk said Tuesday. Also over time, Tesla's charging network will open up to other electric vehicles in all countries.

The German transport minister said last month he was trying to persuade Tesla to open up its charging network to other automakers to make it easier for electric vehicle drivers to charge.

In the United States, President Joe Biden's administration passed a bipartisan Senate pact late last month to raise $1.2 trillion (about $1 billion).

Charging companies like EVGO, Blink Charging, Volkswagen's Electrify America, and Chargepoint Holdings are also expanding their charging network in the United States.

Improving charging infrastructure in the US could encourage more Americans to buy electric vehicles, which will give much-needed fuel to General Motors and Ford Motor in their fight against Tesla.
