When Pooja Monga joined Hindustan Unilever as a young professional, she became required to promote the adoption of sustainable products among global stakeholders, policymakers, and customers. 

Additionally, she began undertaking rigorous research to determine consumers’ way of life needs in both developed and developing countries. 

Throughout meetings, Pooja could notice lifestyle merchandise like clothing and accessories around her. She realized those were the ones on which humans spent a significant proportion of their disposable profits. However, she wondered how often these things come from an eco-ethical source. 

Pooja understands how deeply it resonates with conscious consumerism. Within the reachable lifestyle products section, she found a significant shortage of the same product.

She believes that we talk about sustainability but that what we put in or offer is no longer sustainable. "There ought to be a brand that is as handy as any other emblem and offers credible, eco-moral merchandise.” 

 This influenced Pooja to begin Saltpetre, a sustainable way of life emblem, in October 2020. The Bengaluru-primarily based startup affords sustainable merchandise in the clothing, skincare, add-ons, and home accents categories.

 The Journey

For Pooja, starting Saltpetre was a dream come genuine. At the same time, as she had constantly wanted to be an entrepreneur, she additionally wanted to take advantage of the much-needed experience. 

After starting her adventure in the global commercial enterprise with corporations like Hero MotoCorp and Hindustan Unilever, she learned how establishments functioned.

Her zeal and wish to carry out eco-ethical cloth creation on a large-scale production degree led her to be a cotton farmer in Gujarat and a weaver in Kutch and Himachal Pradesh. For almost a year, Pooja stepped into the sphere and learned a whole lot, approximately cotton sowing, harvesting cycles, yarn spinning, fabric manufacturing devices, weaving, processing, dyeing, and garment manufacturing.

After that, he started the first batch of clothes for pilots. Eco-ethical production is based totally on simplistic design and eco-moral manufacturing. The brand’s concept is to create a cutting-edge way of life rooted in sustainable living. This starts with 99% plastic-loose sourcing of uncooked materials and packaging.

The crew buys natural cotton yarn, and from there, with the help of GOTS (global organic textile standard) licensed devices, it constructs and approaches the cloth. The clothes are sourced from providers who might be organically certified or bypass assessment for moral practices “We do not go to wholesalers or stores, but rather to Vardhman or Mandhana textiles, or natural cotton stores.
