As the Women's Equality Day(26th August) is here, it's an urge for us to remember such places and incidents where women were not under the light of the greatness of men even sometimes they became the light to show the right way to our society.

WHETHER IT IS NEERJA BHANOT OR SHAKUNTALA DEVI, THE SHEROES OF OUR COUNTRY HAS ALWAYS MADE A GREAT IMPACT ON BOLLYWOOD

Bollywood doesn't leave a chance to mesmerize us with its wonderful endeavors. Today, we bring you the stories of those SHEROES who made an eternal effect on our life by those biographical movies, Bollywood gifted to us.

NEERJA: Neerja Bhanot was the senior flight purser on Pan Am Flight 73 flying from Bombay to the United States, which was hijacked at Karachi Airport at Pakistan by four armed terrorists on 5th Sept 1986. Neerja died trying to save 359 passengers and crew on board.

Sonam Kapoor played the role of the head purser in the movie. Every emotion has been very beautifully described in the movie, which ends with a special tribute to Neerja Bhanot's bravery by showing the video clip where she became the youngest recipient of India's highest peacetime gallantry, the Ashok Chakra Award. This film owns multiple respected awards with particular praise for Sonam Kapoor's performance and Ram Madhavani's direction.

MARY KOM: Director Omung Kumar made 'Mary Kom', an Indian Hindi Biographical Sports film which stars Priyanka Chopra as the main lead. The film is based on the life of Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom, an Indian amateur boxer who is the only female to become World Amateur Boxing Champion for a record six times and the only boxer to win eight World Championship medals.

This film portrays the actual women empowerment that how a farmer's daughter puts India on the World map overcoming all her struggles and tribulations.

CHAPAAK: The movie 'Chapaak' is based on the life of an Indian Acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal. She was attacked in 2005 at the age of 16, after rebuffing the romantic advances of Naeem Khan. When other victims hide their faces behind their dupattas and lock themselves in the room, Laxmi vowed to lock the actual criminals up and established grassroots campaigns for tackling the surge of acid attacks and one of her petitions has led the Supreme Court to order the Govt. to regulate the sale of acid.

Deepika Padukone's astonishing performance in the role of Laxmi and Meghna Gulzar's craft makes 'Chapaak' a must-watch. The Govt. also allowed the film to be exhibited without the payment of taxes in some states.

DANGAL: 'Dangal' in 2016 also brought women inspired piece, based on the story of Geeta Phogat, a freestyle wrestler. She owns India's first-ever gold medal in Wrestling at Commonwealth Games in 2010. 

Amir Khan and his production build up the film with a huge realistic essence. Actor Zara Wasim and Fatima Shaikh portrayed the character of Geeta Phogat very beautifully. Their acting skills were so good that they didn't look like actors but athletes. This film bought a huge appreciation from the audience also got an Oscar Nomination. Zara Wasim played the role of Geeta's childhood got National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress and many more prestigious awards were in the basket of the movie.

SHAKUNTALA DEVI: Amazon Prime Video released the movie 'Shakuntala Devi', a biographical comedy-drama film which upholds the story of the 'Human Computer', Shakuntala Devi. She was an Indian writer and mental calculator. Her talent earned her a place in the 1982 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records. Her book 'The World of Homosexuals' is considered the first study of Homosexuality in India. 

This film would have gained a number of awards and honors if it got the silver screen. But due to the pandemic, it streamed on Amazon Prime Video. This film highly demands an appreciation for upholding such stories that no one did.

There are many more gems of Bollywood like Bandit Queen, a  story and journey of Phoolan Devi, Gunjan Saxena- The Kargil Girl,s of the flight lieutenant of the Kargil War, The Dirty Picture, tragic story of the heroine Silk. They all have different fields to show but proclaim the same thing that Women didn't born just to be captivated in their house and their household works, they can win the world on their own.
