The “Like” button will still appear next to the “Like” button and people will still be able to dislike a video. But the number of dislikes is not shown to the audience. However, producers can still see the number of dislikes in the studio.
The company decided to make this new change after experimenting. YouTube ran an experiment this July to see whether changes to the disapproval count might help YouTubers better protect themselves from harassment.
Following this experiment, YouTube found that hiding the number of dislikes made it less likely that users would target a video's dislike button to increase the number. The data also showed that the attack behavior decreased as a result of the new change.
Creators can still find out the exact number of dislikes in YouTube Studio if they want to see how their content is performing.
Developers using the YouTube Dislikes API will no longer have access to public dislikes starting December 13th. End users can still see unpopular data about their content in authenticated API requests.
Viewers can still dislike the video to further personalize and refine their recommendations. The only change is that you won't be able to see the number of dislikes on the video.
