Heart-winning Initiatives By Sonu Sood (The real life hero) - During Lockdown

Many kind hearts and generous souls had come forward to lend a helping hand to the needy during the lockdown. This includes famous Bollywood personalities like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and one can’t forget Sonu Sood, who had come up with commendable initiatives and has created his image as a ‘Messiah of the Migrants’

Sonu Sood, born and brought up in Moga, Punjab, left his engineering to pursue the career of an Actor. He had initially worked in Tamil films.

and then entered Bollywood. He is known for his negative roles in Bollywood movies. He had also established his production house in 2016, Shakti Sagar Productions, named after his father, Shakti Sagar Sood.

His acts of kindness towards migrant workers, farmers, and students during lockdown had sought him a lot of blessings.

His instant response to the problems faced by stranded laborers willing to go back home was most appreciated. He even donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to the frontline healthcare personnel.

Here are some of the initiatives that the warm-hearted actor, Sonu Sood had taken.

Providing Accomodation to Health Workers

In the month of March, when the nation was under lockdown, health workers and doctors had to constantly work. They were the hope of people and at the same time had to face social stigma as many didn’t let them enter the colonies, fearing the contraction of Coronavirus. Then Sonu Sood opened the gates of his Juhu Hotel in Mumbai.

Providing Food to the Hungry

As all the industrial work and businesses were put to a halt, it resulted in widespread food insecurity. Many daily-wage workers and those working in the informal sector had to suffer the worst. It became difficult for them to survive as arranging for two meals a day was a burden to them.

Amid all these, Sonu launched Shakti Annadanam in the name of his late father, Shakti Sood Sagar, with the aim of feeding 45,000 people daily in Mumbai. Sonu also used to send trucks filled with fruits and refreshments.

‘I can’t see people sleep empty stomach while we bake cakes, desserts at home’ said Sonu.

Arranging for the buses to transport Migrants to their home

When the government extended lockdown beyond May. It had been three months that the laborers were surviving without money and two- square meals a day. Frustration grew among laborers and all wanted to return to their homes. Lacking money they started walking for miles and many casualties were witnessed.

So, he began with a group of migrants in Karnataka who were about to start their journey on foot. He then asked for permission from the Karnataka and Maharashtra state governments to arrange for buses for these migrants to go home and also helped with their medical clearances.

“My phone hasn’t stopped ringing since the day our buses filled with people went to Karnataka. I’ve been missing out on calls and messages, which is why I started the toll-free number. That’s also flooded with calls. There are over 70,000 people on the waiting list, and many more contact us,” says Sood.

Providing a tractor to the farmer.

Recently, a video went viral where a farmer, K Nageswara Rao’s, the daughter was ploughing the field. The farmer, who belonged to the village of KV Palli in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, could neither afford oxen or a tractor.

As Sonu came to know about the farmer, he arranged a tractor for him. This act was appreciated by Andhra pradesh leader, Chandrababu Naidu, who later took the responsibility of funding the education of Rao’s two daughters.

Such heart winning acts of Sonu Sood, were appreciated all around the country. His inspiration has been his mother who would say, ‘life is all about giving’.’
